The Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University has been set up by the ordinance No. 5/1994 of Gujarat Government which became an Act of Gujarat State Legislature for this purpose. The Act No. 14 of 1994 is recognized as the founding stones of this university. The university provides admission in 38 programmes through the system of Open & Distance Learning. Regarded as the seventh university of open learning in the country, the university constitutes more than 250 study centres throughout the state for providing education to the enrolled students.
